The 1957 children’s classic “The Grinch who stole Christmas” hit the nail on the head, Christmas is a time of giving but there are so many ways to give. Particularly at this time of year, never underestimate the impact of a random act of Christmas kindness. Not only does it help the people receiving our kindness, it also makes us feel pretty good as well, it truly is the gift that keeps giving. Here are five reasons why I LOVE giving random acts of Christmas kindness:
1. It is usually free
2. It feels good to give kindness.
3. It feels good to receive kindness.
4. It is totally within our control to give kindness.
5. One random act of kindness contributes to a better world for all of us
So in the lead up to Christmas I like to think about a different type of Christmas countdown that I call the 12 Days of Christmas Kindness. Its starts 13th December and runs through to Christmas Eve, see if you can do a few of these, imagine if everyone did? What a Christmas that would be!
13th Write a letter to someone & post it
14th Post happy images on social media
15th Call a friend to ask about their day
16th Tape some coins to a vending machine
17th Candy cane bomb a parking lot
18th Let someone get in line ahead of you
19th Feed an expired parking meter
20th Shop small business
21st Let a car merge in front of you
22nd When you ask ‘how are you’, actively listen to the response
23rd Praise a child to their parents so they can hear you
24th Deliver chocolates to the local police or fire station
